As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I am re-launching The Biz Academy, my service for the True Small Business owner – typically owners with 1-5 employees. I’ll be sharing more details of the program shortly (you can read about the details of The Biz Academy here), but I wanted to start by talking a little bit about why I started this project to begin with.

When I started my business, I focused on selling one-on-one coaching engagements. These engagements are best suited for companies that have been in business for a few years, have experienced a certain degree of success, and now want to take their business to the next level.

As I attended different small business networking events, I kept running into a problem. I constantly met small business owners who wanted help growing their business, but had yet to reach the point where the expense of a “typical” one-on-one coaching engagement made sense for their business.

As I continued to work with more businesses, another pattern emerged. When I began working with a business that had grown large enough that a one-on-one coaching engagement made sense, the first thing we had to do was “fix” the mistakes that were made when they were “too small” to afford getting help.

So I started talking to small business owners in my networking groups to try to design a program that would meet the specific needs of this group I was calling the True Small Business owners.

True Small Businesses typically have between one and five employees. The owners are working hard to grow and break through to the next level. These businesses face the same challenges as larger companies, but they have far fewer resources with which to do so.

As I worked with these True Small Business owners, it became clear that any solution we came up with would need to:

  • Provide practical information and advice that the True Small Business owner needs with
  • Enough detail and support to allow them to be able to apply it in their business while
  • Making the resources available where and when they need it and
  • All at a price that fits the True Small Business owner’s budget

The solution that we came up with is The Biz Academy. The Biz Academy is a membership-based community of True Small Business owners. It is the place to go to find the practical answers and resources you need to you grow your business.

One thing that has been very important to me is that The Biz Academy be built around the needs of the community. So, during the past few months, I have been showing The Biz Academy to small business owners and listening to their feedback. As a result of the great feedback I received, The Biz Academy is being “re-launched” with a totally redesigned set of programs. I am very excited about our new combination of programs and I hope you will be too.

In my next post, I’ll discuss the different components that make up The Biz Academy.

I’ve worked in professional services since 1990 – first as a CPA, then as a custom software developer, and since 2006 as a marketing consultant specializing in direct marketing and sales enablement copywriting for professional services.

My career path gives me unique insight into B2B sales. I understand what CFOs question (from my accounting background), how complex projects are sold (from software development), and what content actually moves deals forward (from 19+ years helping professional services firms close premium clients).

My copywriting and consulting focuses exclusively on what I call the Core4 Outcomes: increasing authority, generating leads, driving sales, and improving client retention.
